President Trump has filed a defamation lawsuit towards The Wall Avenue Journal and its dad or mum firm Information Corp, alleging they falsely claimed he despatched a lewd birthday card to Jeffrey Epstein in 2003.
The lawsuit, filed in Florida federal court docket, facilities on a July 17, 2025 WSJ article titled “Jeffrey Epstein’s Pals Despatched Him Bawdy Letters for a fiftieth Birthday Album. One was from Donald Trump.” Trump seeks $10 billion in damages, claiming the story was fabricated to “malign President Trump’s character and integrity.”
In keeping with the grievance, the WSJ article described a card allegedly containing “a number of traces of typewritten textual content framed by the define of a unadorned lady” with Trump’s signature positioned “beneath her waist, mimicking pubic hair.” The article claimed the cardboard included a theatrical-style dialogue between Trump and Epstein, with traces like “We have now sure issues in widespread, Jeffrey” and ending with “A pal is an excellent factor. Joyful Birthday — and will day by day be one other great secret.”
Trump’s attorneys say they warned the WSJ earlier than publication that the story was false, writing in an e mail that “President Trump didn’t writer the purported letter.” The grievance states the Journal “failed to connect the letter, failed to connect the alleged drawing, failed to indicate proof that President Trump authored or signed any such letter, and failed to elucidate how this purported letter was obtained.”
The lawsuit names WSJ dad or mum firm Information Corp, its proprietor Rupert Murdoch, CEO Robert Thomson, and the article’s authors Khadeeja Safdar and Joseph Palazzolo as defendants. It claims the story has been considered by “a whole bunch of thousands and thousands of individuals” and brought on “overwhelming monetary and reputational damages to President Trump.”
“The rationale for these failures is as a result of no genuine letter or drawing exists,” the lawsuit states.
The WSJ has but to answer the lawsuit. My guess is they’re well-prepared to cope with it.
